Our Philosophy

At Dance Concept, we teach way more than steps. Yes, we teach movement, but we want to know of our students What moves you? We connect to our dancers through genuine care, curiosity and compassion for each individual. Our dance education foundation is built of solid training and technique. We teach the skills, conditioning, and discipline required of top quality dance training. And we have a long history of DC alums who have gone on to professional dance careers to prove it. (Click here to see a few.) But to us, technique isn’t very valuable without the passion, artistry and enjoyment that result in real personal discovery and growth. We believe that dance training is life training and that the lessons we help instill in our students will serve them well as they dance their way through wherever life takes them.

Our History

Dance Concept began in 1973 when Debbi Jo Thibeau (Debbi Jo Froman back then) started teaching dance to neighborhood kids in her parents’ garage. Her infectious passion for dance and her warm and welcoming teaching style quickly attracted more students than her garage could hold, and the rest, as they say, is history. Today, Dance Concept is home to hundreds of dancers of all ages and levels. Thousands of dancers have called Dance Concept their dance home since 1973, and the studio now welcomes second and even third generation DC dancers. What began with humble neighborhood roots and a single teacher now stands as one of the longest-running dance studios in the region with a full staff of qualified, talented instructors and a prestigious award-winning competitive team.
